2024 SUNS Open Championship

7 divisions of singles events
Open division & Divisions 1 to Division 6

Though the championship is scheduled for the whole day, every division
shall be completed from start to finals in about 5 hours.

One of the highest offered in a club championship
Prizes are offered for the top 4 finishers (semi-finalist stage)


$1,000 prize value to Open Division Winner
As shown in the chart below,
The winner of the Open division would receive medal plus prize value of $1,000.
The Runner-Up a prize value of $400 plus medal.


Players below RC 801 has a division too
And to encourage players who have not participated in any Championships,
division 6 (for players who are below RC 801) is introduced for the first time.

Shorten Time Schedule per division

The Championship shall be a whole day event from 9:00am to 10:30pm
However, every division is scheduled to be completed in a span of 5 to 6 hours
even less for some divisions.

to the final number of entries for the championships

Every division shall start and complete based on their time slots
Example: The schedule start time for Div 3 and Div 5 is 9:00am.
And the final match would probably be played about 2:30pm
All times are subjected to adjustments during the course of play.
The time schedule shall be finalised at closing date when all entries have been received.
 
Entry Fees

$30 per division for Open division, Div 1, Div 2, and Div 3
$25 per division for Div 4, Div 5, and Div 6

Conditions of Entry

1. Decisions: The Tournament Committee, in conjunction with the Tournament Director, shall have sole management of the Championships, and their decisions are final

2. Division Events – are open to players rated within the RC points staged for the division set out below according to Ratings Central Points on the 23 February 2024

Open Div      – 1,701 and above, places limited to 24 players
Division 1     – 1,601 to 1,800, limit 40 players
Division 2     – 1,401 to 1,600, limit 40 players
Division 3     – 1,201 to 1,400, limit 40 players
Division 4     – 1,001 to 1,200, limit 40 players
Division 5     –  801 to 1,000, limit 40 players
Division 6     –  Below 801, limit 24 players

Standard deviations stated in RC shall not apply.
Should a lower division be chosen, only 20 RC points below the player's RC shall be considered for marginal players.

A player may enter in 2 events.
A player may enter in the division of his own RC range, plus an additional division which is the next higher division above his RC range.

3. Additional requirements for players without a current RC
*  A letter from their own table tennis club certifying the estimated level of RC
*  His/her performance during the championship up to knock-out round of 16 shall be judged by the tournament committee.
The tournament committee shall disqualify the player should the player be participating in a lower RC level than his own level.
The entry fees shall not be refunded when this occurs.

*  In addition, players with a recently acquired RC shall be treated in the same manner as those without a current RC. 
Recently acquired RC is defined as an RC obtained based on less than 3 previous tournament events or based on more than 2 years ago.

*  Players with RC shall have preference over those without RC

Players per division

4. The number of participants in each division is limited as shown above.
Entries are accepted based on RC qualification. 
Players with qualified RCs within their division shall have preference over those from a lower division.
 
5. All entries declined by the tournament committee and not entered in the draw shall have their entry fees refunded.

 
6. Code of conduct 
All players, coaches, and accompanying personnel must abide by the NSW COVID-19 regulations and conform to a proper Code of conduct.
Zero tolerance shall apply to abusive and obscene behaviours, and ball and equipment abuse.
 
7. Equipment – DHS DJ 3star, 40+ ITTF approved balls shall be used

8. Game Rules: ITTF Rules will apply to clothing, rackets, gluing, equipment, and control of the tournament generally.
Any query of the legality or acceptability of playing attire shall be decided by the Tournament Referee.
Gluing is not permitted within the stadium.
The main colour of the clothing shall not be WHITE.
Tracksuits are not to be worn without the permission of the referee


9. Refusal of Entry - The Tournament Committee in conjunction with the Tournament Director reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to refuse entry into the tournament by any player, coaches, and accompanying personnel. If the (Event) Tournament Committee in conjunction with the Tournament Director exercises this option, it will notify the player accordingly.

10. Time Schedule
The final time scheduled for the start of each event shall be determined on 18th March 2024. The time schedule shall be published via whatsapp and the website.
 
However, events may start earlier than stated when matches in an earlier division have completed. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter the times to suit the situation in conjunction with table availability.
 
All players shall be present at the stadium at least 1/2 hour before the scheduled starting time. Upon arrival at the stadium players shall report to the Control Centre immediately.


11. Reschedule Matches
Where there are any matches which are not started by 10:00pm the Tournament Director shall reschedule the matches to a suitable date and time with the agreement of all players involved.


12. Cancelling Events: The Tournament Committee, in conjunction with the Tournament Director, shall have the power to cancel any event which attracts insufficient entries and to vary any conditions as it may deem necessary. Players entering an event that is cancelled, or for which they are not eligible, will be placed in an alternative event if one is suitable. 
An event (a division) will be cancelled should it attracts less than 16 entries.
In addition the Open division would be cancelled should it attracts less than 8 players with RC above 1,800

13. Injury: No claim will be recognized by SUNS TTA should any player receive any injury during the playing of this tournament. All entrants compete at their own risk.
 
14. Late Entries: Acceptance of late entries is at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

15. Media: By participating, players consent to his/her photo/video and identity to be used for all media publication.


16. Refund: Refund is at the sole discretion of the Tournament Committee. Refunds shall be provided for players who are rejected by the Tournament Director before the draw. There are no refunds for players who have been accepted. 

17. All announcements and notifications shall be deemed delivered via Whatsapp, and or notices in suns.org.au. During the tournament matches are announced on the PA system. All players must remain on call at Court 1, Brickpit Stadium and report for play within 5 minutes of the call.


SCORESHEETS & UMPIRING:

18. All players shall agree to be umpires for matches during play. Refusal to umpire upon request from the Tournament Director or Committee may result in disqualification
 
19. Collect the score sheet at the Control Centre. All players and umpires indicated on the score sheet should proceed to the allocated table and start the match without delay.
 
20. The Tournament Committee shall endeavour to provide competent umpires from the quarter-final stages of an event.

21. All players and the umpire must check, sign, & return the score sheet, clip board, pen and ball to the Control Centre immediately upon completion of matches.


FORMAT OF PLAY
 
22. Event Format - All matches are the best of 5 games. The final in the Open division
 may be played as best of 7 games at the discretion of the Tournament Director
 
23. Warmup: A maximum 2-minute hit-up is allowed prior to the commencement of a match. Ready to Play: Any player not ready to play when called may be disqualified by the Tournament Director.


24. Breaks
  • Time-Breaks – A one-minute time-break/time-out for each player is allowed per match.
  • Towel-Breaks – No towel-breaks are allowed at any time during a match
  • Games-Breaks – A 30 seconds games-break is allowed between games. Coaching is allowed during this break, which also serves as a water-break.
 
Players can be disqualified when they did not observe these breaks.
 
25. Coaching is not permitted at any time during a game.


26. ROUND-ROBIN
Players shall play round-robin matches in pools of 3 players, each player playing 2 matches.
There shall be 2 players advancing from each pool to the knock-out stages.
The Tournament Director shall decide on the number of pools in each division as he sees fit.

With 24 entries, players shall be grouped into 8 pools of 3 players, each player playing 2 matches. There shall be 2 players advancing to the knock-out stage. The 16 winners and runners-up shall advance to the knock-out stages.


With 40 entries, the top RC ranking 16 players are seeded with automatic advance to the knock-out Round of 32.
The rest of the 24 players shall be grouped into 8 pools of 3. With 2 players from each pool (winners and runners-up) 16 players shall advance and join the knock-out Round of 32.

 
27. Pool round-robin pool winners shall be decided by:
1) Number of matches won
2) If there is a tie in matches won, by ratios on rubbers won/rubbers lost
3) If there is still a tie, by ratios on total points won/total points lost
 
28. If there are less than 16 players advancing into the knock-out round, 3rd place finishers shall advance, decided in accordance to the same criteria as item #27
 
29. The knock-out stages comprise the Round of 32 and or Round of 16, the Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final
 
30. In all matters, the decision of the Tournament Director shall be final.
 

ACCEPTANCE
 
31. The submission of the Entry Form is deemed as acceptance of these Conditions of Entry to the Tournament.
